What makes Birdle different

Frequently asked questions

What is Birdle?
Birdle is a free daily bird-guessing game. Each day a pixelated photo of a bird is revealed bit by bit — your job is to identify the species in as few reveals as possible.
How do I play Birdle?
Press Begin, then tap the image to reduce the pixelation a little at a time. Type the bird's common name into the box and hit Submit whenever you think you know it. The fewer reveals you use and the faster your time, the better your score.
Is Birdle free to play?
Yes — Birdle is completely free, with no account required.
Is there a new bird every day?
Yes. A new bird puzzle is published every day and is the same for everyone, so you can compare your result with other players on the leaderboard.
What birds are featured?
Birds from around the world. Every puzzle shows a region hint (a flag or region label) so you know roughly where the bird is found — from British & Irish garden birds to Neotropical, Australasian and pelagic species.
Can I play past puzzles?
Yes. You can replay previous birds from the archive as practice — these are just for fun and are not scored.
How is my score worked out?
Solving on an earlier (more pixelated) image scores better than solving on a later one, and within the same image a faster time ranks higher. Solve today's bird and enter three initials to appear on the leaderboard.
