How to Play Pixle

Pixle is a free daily picture puzzle. Each day a single pixelated image is waiting to be revealed — sharpen it one tap at a time and work out what it shows before you run out of reveals.

The rules

  1. Press Begin to start the timer.
  2. Tap the image to reveal a sharper version. Each tap shows the next, clearer frame.
  3. Type your guess at any time and press Submit — you don't have to wait for the final image.
  4. Solve it and enter three initials for the day's leaderboard.
  5. Stuck on the final image? Hit Give up to see the answer.

Scoring

The earlier (more pixelated) the image you solve on, and the faster your time, the better you rank. The leaderboard groups players by the image they solved on, then sorts by time. Some categories — like albums (artist + album) or films (title + year) — award a gold star ⭐ for a complete answer.

A worldwide daily

A fresh Pixle unlocks at midnight in your timezone, and the whole world plays the same puzzle for each date. You can also replay older puzzles from the archive — those rounds are just for fun and aren't scored.

Frequently asked questions

What is Pixle?

Pixle is a free daily picture puzzle. You start with a heavily pixelated image and reveal a sharper version with every tap. Guess what it shows — an album cover, a film, an actor, a flag, a landmark and more — in as few reveals and as little time as possible.

How do I play?

Press Begin to start the timer, then tap the image to reveal more detail. Type your guess at any point and press Submit. Solve it and you can enter three initials for that day's leaderboard.

Is there a new puzzle every day?

Yes. A new Pixle goes live at midnight in your own timezone, and everyone in the world plays the same puzzle for a given date — whichever part of the world reaches that date first sets it for everyone.

How is my score worked out?

Your score rewards solving on an earlier (more pixelated) image and in a faster time. The leaderboard groups players by the image they solved on, then ranks by time.

What is a gold star?

Some puzzles award a gold star for a more complete answer — for example naming both the album and the artist, or the film and its year.

Can I play previous puzzles?

Yes. Open the archive from the start screen to replay past puzzles. Archive games are just for fun and are not scored on the leaderboard.

Does Pixle cost anything?

No. Pixle is completely free to play in any modern web browser, with nothing to install.
